2012 JALTEMBA CUP TOURNAMENT FORMAT AND RULES

(These are 2011 Rules. The Rules Committee is meeting to discuss changes.)

  1. Each team will consist of four players. At least three of the players must be from the community of which the team represents.
  2. Team members will play 9 holes on Saturday Jan. 29, 2011
  3. Team members will play the back 9 holes on Sunday Jan 30, 2011
  4. Each player will tee off on every tee box.  One ball will then be selected for play using alternating shots through the hole.  There are no gimmees. Hitting a ball out of turn is a 2 stroke penalty.
  5. One score will be recorded for each two player team each day.
  6. The total score for the four players will be recorded on Sunday.
  7. Four tee shots must be used by each player per nine holes.
  1. Red tee markers will be used by the men and Women for the first round and blue markers for the men on the second round.
  1. Women and any male under the age of thirteen or 70 years and older may tee off on the Red Markers on the second round.

10. Prizes for women and men for closest to the hole on #4. Ball must be on the green.                                                                                     

11. Teams will keep score for the opposing team they are playing with. Opposing team must sign the score card.

12. No team will be allowed to play without an opposing team or a scoring marshal.

                            TOURNAMENT COURSE RULES FOR PLAY

1.  ALL AREAS OF THE GOLF COURSE ARE IN PLAY UNLESS SPECIFICALLY  ADDRESSED          

2.  Play the ball as it lies, i.e. you cannot exchange balls.  Unplayable balls may be moved according to the rules of golf with a stroke penalty.  Play the ball as it lies after the drop. Drop the ball at arms length.

3.  All ditches and fences are considered lateral hazards (drop at point of entry and add one stroke penalty). No ball can be played that has crossed a fence into private property, you must take a drop, one stroke penalty. 

4.  A player must tee off even with or behind the markers (2 club lengths)       Penalty of 2 strokes for violation.

5.  On number 6, 7, and 8, with the ball in the fairway, you may move the ball no more than one club length without a penalty. In the rough, play it as it lies. There will be a drop zone on #6 near the pathway to the green and a drop zone on #7 near the water pump, to be used if both drives enter into the water. There will be a drop zone for the ditch on number 3. If drop zone is used, one stroke penalty. Zones will be marked

6.  Heavily vegetated areas of the course are in play.  You may hit a provisional ball, one stroke penalty and then hunt for the original.  IF THE ORIGINAL BALL IS FOUND YOU MUST PLAY IT (no penalty). 

8.  Free drops no closer to the hole from all manmade obstructions, including all shelters, bridges, cart paths and trees with a well around them. All other trees and vegetation, play the ball as it lies or you may take a drop with one stroke penalty.

9.  PLEASE PUT AN IDENTIFICATION MARK ON YOUR GOLF BALLS

                  OPTIONS AVAILABLE FOR LATERAL HAZARDS

  1. PLAY ANOTHER BALL (YOUR 3RD STROKE)
  2. PLAY THE BALL AS IT LIES IN THE HAZARD (YOU CANNOT  DISTURB ANY MATERIAL IN THE HAZARD).
  3. DROP WITHIN 2 CLUB LENGTHS NO CLOSER TO THE HOLE AT THE POINT AT WHICH THE BALL CROSSED THE HAZARD (THIS IS NOT USUALLY DIRECTLY LATERAL).  ONE STROKE PENALTY.
  4. Cannot move the ball from the rough to the fairway.
  5. The ditch between #4’s tee boxes is considered a lateral hazard. Play as it lies or take a drop with one stroke penalty.

    OPTIONS AVAILABLE FOR WATER AND OTHER HAZARDS

  1. PLAY ANOTHER BALL (YOUR 3RD STROKE)
  2. PLAY THE BALL AS IT LIES IN THE HAZARD
  3. DROP THE BALL DIRECTLY BEHIND (TOWARD THE TEE BOX) AS FAR AS YOU WANT ON A LINE FORMED BY THE PIN AND WHERE THE BALL CROSSED THE HAZARD. One stroke penalty
